Today I am excited to share (a teaser of) a project that's been in the works for months:

Next Monday will kick off a new biweekly feature: the Makers Series.

Similar to my Artist Spotlight feature from some years ago, this project will be highlighting some of my favorite makers of all kinds! The Makers Series will be slightly different from the aforementioned though because this will be more focused on the process and thinking behind the creative work.

I can’t wait to share this passion project with you and introduce you to some amazing women makers ♥

For now, I’ll leave you with this teaser :)

Spring Update + Chicago Booking for May!

How is the Spring season treating you? 🌸

Mine is going fairly well! Especially compared to about this time last year. I have been working with some amazing clients (as always, honestly lol) and managing my mental illness much better than I have been in quite some time. That’s huge for me, so I’m pretty happy about that :)

My last Truthy Tuesday at the beginning of the year was a not great one… Since then, I’ve been incorporating a number of things in an effort to craft some semblance of wellness and… although the bad days aren’t gone completely, I can say that I have been doing a bit better these past few weeks and I am super grateful for that. If you’re interested, I can go more into detail on that in another post :)

Before I get on to the availability updates and whatnot, I have a new book recommendation:

Make Time: How to Focus on What Matters Every Day.

This book has been really helpful in regards to changing how I view my personal priorities vs what’s important to others and combined with the principles from the previous books I shared, I think I may be onto something! As soon as I can successfully apply these things to my life lol. But having the tools is a great first step :)

Onto the availability updates!

I do hope you’ll forgive me for the late notice BUT-

Chicago, I’ll be in your city at the beginning of May!

You guys didn’t get as much notice as Atlanta unfortunately because quite a few spots were booked ahead of time, but I have 3 spaces left available on May 2 and 5.

On the home front, weekends are going F A S T.

I updated my calendar this week, and… there are only 3 weekends left available for May and June! Plenty of weekdays available, so if you’d like to get on the calendar sooner than later, that may be your best bet.

Also, you may have noticed that I typically have early appointment times listed. Why is that? 3 reasons:

1. Less people which means less car and pedestrian traffic, 2. Cooler temperatures. As the weather heats up, this means that we’re able to shoot comfortably without being super hot, and 3. Although good light can be found at any time, I tend to enjoy morning light. So even though I’m not a morning person, I don’t mind sacrificing for the sake of art, and I do hope you’re open to creating in the morning hours with me as well :)

Get a JUMP START on 2018! | News & Updates

It's been a while since my post, so I wanted to pop in with some exciting travel updates for 2018!

Since streamlining my travel in 2017, I will be doing the same for 2018! What does that mean for you? In short, if I will be traveling to one major city, I won't be visiting nearby major cities.

Currently, the following cities are in consideration: 

Are you located in/near (or willing to travel to) one of the above cities, and interested in mentoring, a lifestyle portrait, or business session?

Be sure to specify the city and service you're interested in booking :)

For the FL and TX cities listed, the destination will be determined by where there is a greater cluster of interest.

While it may be a bummer that your city isn't listed, if I will be traveling to a nearby city, I'd still love to work with you! Just think of it this way: I'll be much closer than I would be in DC :)

NOTE: Scheduled dates (for the first 3 cities) will be announced the week of December 4. Mentoring and photo sessions are scheduled on a first come, first served basis and once max availability is reached, no additional appointments will be scheduled. So, if you'd like to work together, I'll need to hear from you this week!

Just a brief note on local availability: 2017 is all booked! Currently, booking is open for February 2018 and beyond, and winter mini sessions are available between February 15 and March 20.

8 Years! | News & Updates

Good Thursday evening to you! Just stopping in with a lonnng overdue post...

It's been a while since my last update, but I've been busy trying to get my life together. Although I haven't made the effort lately to (publicly) #talkaboutuncomfortablethings, they are still very present. I began talking about my struggle living with mental illness last year when I was newly diagnosed, but this year I haven't done much sharing. Not because I am ashamed, I'm just tired. 

So much so, that every time I sat down to write this blog, it went a little something like this:

"Too busy managing to sit and talk about how you've been managing is very real." -Yodith D.

One step forward, three steps back, two to the side, a spin, and so goes the waltz with my mental health. Most times I don't know who the DJ is, much less what song is playing. So while my clients are taken care of, this post for a long while seemed like an immovable mountain that I could simply tip toe around. Jotting down an outline felt like too much. Selecting photos felt like too much. Typing coherent thoughts felt like too much... and now I kinda want to lie back down.

But I'm finallllly pushing through so... on with the updates:

First up? DFinney Photography turned 8 years old earlier this month.... Eight!

I also turned 30 this month, and honestly, I can hardly believe that I've been at it this long. The majority of my 20's! I'm learning more and more every day that time works in its own strange way and this past year is no exception.

My wonderful clients have kept me busier than EVER and I couldn't be more thankful. In addition to creating beautiful imagery with clients I've come to love, these past 8 years have connected me with other like minded individuals who have become invaluable! You have been patient with me in my vulnerability and I can't express how much that means to me. I am so thankful to be apart of such a loving and supportive community.

What else, what else...oh yes! I was featured in the September/October 2017 issue of Click Magazine! 😬

I was contacted a few months back to do a short write-up and share a few photos for an article on my lifestyle business imagery! I'd honestly forgotten about it because things have been so hectic, but earlier this month I finally received the physical copy and I was ecstatic!

Like... this is an absolutely stellar publication. And to have MY work featured in it? I really can't fully express how much this means to me. It was an honor to be considered and I am so thankful for the opportunity!

Before I go, I want to remind you that tomorrow is the official start of Fall! Andddd Fall Minis are on the way!

Fall Minis are being held on Saturday, November 4th and Sunday the 5th!

Booking for Fall Minis will begin on Monday, October 2nd at 10:30am EDT for those on the mailing list, and Wednesday, October 4th for everyone else. Now because Fall Minis book VERY quickly, I would suggest you join the mailing list if you haven't already, but that's merely a suggestion... a strong one lol.

Express Headshot Special on 4/8

DFinney Photography will be partnering with Angel of The Spice Suite (check out the post right below this one for more info on how amazing she is :) for a pop-up Photo Bar on April 8, 2017!

Spring Minis: Booking opens on 3/20

Spring is in the air and booking for Spring Minis begins in two weeks!

Spring Minis this year, will be held on May 6th and 7th. Booking is available to the mailing list first, and 2 days later, to the general public. So first, sign up for the mailing list if you haven't already, then mark your calendars, because on MONDAY, MARCH 20, you can book your Spring Mini session! Spring Minis are one of the most popular specials and tend to book very quickly (last year all of the spots were gone before booking opened for the general public) so be sure you're near your email Monday morning on 3/20  to snag a spot :)

Availability Update: DC, Dallas, ATL...

First? A huge thank you to all who have secured their upcoming Spring sessions! I was a bit nervous about beginning travel after taking a break last year, but you guys have been so awesome and I am incredibly thankful for such wonderful clients ♥

Now for the availability update:
Dallas + DC mentoring sessions are booked. There is one seat remaining for the ATL session (5/19), and two seats remaining for Charlotte (7/21).

There is very limited availability for travel mini sessions on the following dates:
Sunday, May 21: Atlanta
Saturday, June 3: Brooklyn
Sunday, July 23: Charlotte

As for DC, I have about 4 remaining dates for Spring... So if you are interested in scheduling a session, I do not recommend waiting until the last minute.

If you are interested in scheduling a session for DC, Atlanta, Brooklyn, or Charlotte, shoot me an email ASAP so we can get you on the calendar :)

Note: If you are in CHI or LA and interested in a mentoring or photo session, shoot me an email as well! Those are the only two remaining cities that I may be traveling to this year- in the fall- depending on interest.
